Senior Scientist / Director – Downstream Processing (Algal Ingredients)
Climate-tech start-up Intrinsic Foundries grows algal biomass beside industry and is hiring a senior scientist to build and run its downstream facility in Hazaribag. The role turns biomass into certified lipids, pigments and proteins and owns FSSAI, FSSC 22000 and HACCP certification.

What you’ll do
- Own the downstream train: dewatering, drying, cell disruption, extraction (supercritical CO2, solvent, aqueous), fractionation, purification and formulation
- Set yield, purity and cost targets and close gaps through mass balance and process control
- Run downstream development programmes with milestones, budgets and gate reviews
- Lead the facility from design and equipment selection to commissioning and IQ/OQ/PQ
- Own technical dossiers and certifications: FSSAI, ISO 9001, ISO 22000/FSSC 22000, HACCP, halal, kosher and buyer audits
- Lead the chemistry, analytical and product-delivery team
What the employer asks for
- 15+ years in phytochemicals, botanical extracts, natural colours, specialty oils or nutraceutical ingredients with plant-level responsibility
- Hands-on extraction and purification at scale
- Led at least one facility set-up or major expansion
- Led certifications and customer audits; managed a team of 10+
- Master's or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, food technology or related
- Advantage: algal, microbial or fermentation products, EU/US GMP exports, cost modelling
