Staying safe while job hunting

Fake food-sector job offers are common, especially for freshers and government posts. A genuine employer never asks you to pay to get a job.

FSD will never

  • ask you to pay for a job, an interview, a “registration”, training or a joining kit;
  • call or message you offering a job, or ask for your Aadhaar, PAN, bank details or OTP;
  • apply to a job on your behalf or guarantee selection.

Warning signs

  • A fee, deposit or “security amount” before an interview or joining.
  • An offer letter without any interview, or a salary far above what the role normally pays.
  • Messages only on WhatsApp or Telegram, from a personal email address, or from a website that imitates a company or government site.
  • Pressure to decide or pay within hours.
  • “Guaranteed” government jobs, “direct recruitment” without an official notice, or someone claiming influence in a selection.
  • Requests for your OTP, net-banking login or card details.

Before you apply

  • Open the original notice from the listing and check it is on the employer's own website or an official recruitment portal.
  • For government posts, confirm the notice on the recruiting body's website, such as a Public Service Commission, FSSAI or the department concerned. Only official application fees stated in the notice are genuine.
  • Check the qualification, age and deadline in the notice. Our eligibility self-check only compares what you enter with the published rules.
  • Share documents only through the employer's official application process.

If something looks wrong

  • Use “Report a problem with this listing” on the vacancy, or email johnathan@foodsciencedaily.com. We review reports and close suspicious listings.
  • If you lost money or shared banking details, call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as possible, and inform your bank.
