University of Kashmir — Masters in Food Technology entrance test (with PhD Food Science & Technology entrance) 2027

The University of Kashmir admits students to its Masters in Food Technology through its own entrance test of 60 multiple-choice questions in 70 minutes, with a quarter mark deducted for each wrong answer; the 1-year master's adds a separate 20-question paper.

The Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, offers a 2-year Masters in Food Technology (intake 15), a 1-year master's for four-year graduates, and a PhD. Admission to the master's is through the university's own entrance test, run by the Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations (DACE): a common 60-question paper for both programmes, plus a 20-question paper for 1-year applicants. Selection is on entrance-test merit. The university publishes past entrance booklets and answer keys on its website, including the 2025 Food Technology paper and the 2023 PhD Food Science and Technology paper.

Who can apply

For 2026 the 2-year Masters in Food Technology was open to graduates with Food Technology as a subject (at least 12 credits under CBCS or NEP 2020), or to B.Sc. Medical or Non-Medical, Home Science (food science or nutrition), Food Technology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, B.V.Sc., Pharmaceutical Science, Horticulture, Nutrition and Dietetics, or B.Tech (Food Technology) graduates under the three-year scheme.

  • Prospectus 2026: any graduate having Food Technology as one of the subjects with at least 12 credits under CBCS/NEP 2020.
  • Or (three-year scheme): B.Sc. Medical/Non-Medical with all combinations; B.Sc. Home Science with Food Science or Human Nutrition; B.Sc. Food Technology or Biotechnology; B.Sc. Agriculture; B.V.Sc. and A.H.; B.Sc. Pharmaceutical Science; B.Tech (Food Tech.); B.Sc. (Horticulture); B.Sc. with Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Percentage requirements follow the university statutes for M.Sc. programmes; check the prospectus for the year.
  • Candidates for the 1-year master's (four-year graduates) sit an extra 20-question paper; the merit weight is 80 marks (60 + 20) against 60 for the 2-year programme.
  • The entrance test may be skipped for a programme where eligible applicants do not exceed the intake, with selection on qualifying-exam percentage.

Candidates for the 1-year programme also sit a separate 20-question paper, which these mocks do not include. Only candidates with a positive score are considered.

Marking scheme

1 mark for a correct answer and minus 0.25 for a wrong answer; unanswered questions score zero. Only candidates with a positive total are eligible for selection. An unanswered question scores zero. Our mocks for this exam are scored the same way.
