Food Safety & Regulation

Use by date

The last date on which a food is considered safe to eat. Unlike a best-before date, food should not be eaten after this date.

Real-life application

Perishable items like packaged paneer or milk carry a 'use by' date because eating them afterwards can be a real health risk.
