Odisha Food Safety Officer 2026
Odisha recruits Food Safety Officers for public-health and food-safety enforcement. Its examination has papers in General Studies & Aptitude and Food Science & Technology.
The Odisha Staff Selection Commission recruits Food Safety Officers under the Commissioner of Food Safety through its Combined Graduate Level Recruitment Examination for Specialist posts (84 FSO vacancies in the 2025 cycle). The process has a general-aptitude preliminary examination, a technical main paper on food safety law and chemistry, a qualifying computer skill test and certificate verification. There is no interview.

Who can apply
A bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Agricultural Science, Oil Technology, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry or Microbiology, or a medical degree (MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BAMS or Sowa Rigpa); or a master's degree in those subjects or Chemistry; or a doctorate. Candidates also need adequate computer knowledge and must be aged 21-42 on 1 January 2025. Summarised from OSSC Advt. No. 5919/OSSC.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Bio Technology, Agricultural Science, Oil Technology, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry or Microbiology from a recognised university or institution; or MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BAMS or Bachelor of Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery
- or a Master's degree in the same subjects or in Chemistry; or a Doctorate in the same subjects
- "Food Technology" also covers degrees in Food Engineering, Food Engineering & Technology, Food Processing & Preservation, Food Processing Technology, Food Technology & Management, Food Biotechnology, Food Plant Operations Management, Food Process Engineering & Management, Food Processing, Food Safety & Quality Management, and Process and Food Engineering. "Agricultural Science" also covers Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Food Nutrition and Dietetics, and Horticulture
- Adequate knowledge of Computer Application
- Age 21-42 as on 01.01.2025; +5 years for SEBC, SC, ST and all women; +10 years for PwD; ex-servicemen by length of defence service. Only one relaxation applies, except that SC/ST PwD candidates get a cumulative 10 years over their category relaxation

Marking scheme
A wrong answer loses one-fourth of the question's marks (−0.25 on a 1-mark question, −0.5 on a 2-mark question). An unanswered question scores zero. Our mocks for this exam are scored the same way.
OSSC Food Safety Officer final selection, published May 2022. These are the last selection marks out of 200, based on the main written exam (Paper-I and Paper-II), then a computer skill test and certificate verification. OdishaTV reported the figures; the underlying OSSC document could not be retrieved.
