The syllabus was notified in the Tripura Gazette of 22 June 2021 as an indicative syllabus in two parts. The paper on this site (20 March 2022) has 83 questions in two parts: 19 in Part I General Ability and 64 in Part II Food Safety & General Studies, slightly fewer than the 85 marks in the scheme.
Exam pattern and marking
- Written examination (General Study): 85 marks, MCQ type; interview/personality test: 15 marks.
- Part A, General Aptitude and Computer Literacy: 20 marks (5 questions each of general intelligence, general awareness, English comprehension, computer literacy).
- Part B, Functional Knowledge: 65 marks (Indian and international food laws 20, FSSAI role and initiatives 20, subject matter knowledge 25).
- The gazette scheme and advertisement do not state negative marking or the exam duration.

Part A: General aptitude and computer literacy
4 topics- General intelligence: analogies, series, classification, arithmetical reasoning, non-verbal reasoning
- General awareness: India and neighbours, history, culture, geography, economy, polity, sports, science
- English comprehension: vocabulary, grammar, error spotting, idioms
- Computer literacy: MS Office, Google Docs, email and common social media tools
Indian and international food laws (20)
3 topics- Food Safety and Standards Act 2006: provisions, definitions and sections
- FSS Rules and Regulations; other national bodies such as APEDA, BIS, MPEDA and Spice Board
- Codex Alimentarius, JECFA, JEMRA, JMPR, WTO SPS/TBT agreements; accreditation bodies
FSSAI: role, functions and initiatives (20)
3 topics- Genesis, structure and functions of the Food Authority
- Standards, enforcement, laboratory ecosystem, imports and third-party audit
- Eat Right India, food fortification, Clean Street Food Hub, RUCO, training and the role of State Food Authorities
Subject matter: preservation, chemistry and nutrition
3 topics- Food processing operations, GMP, preservation methods and packaging
- Macro and micronutrients, additives, anti-nutritional factors, enzymes as processing aids
- Nutraceuticals, contaminants, adulterants, allergens, diet and non-communicable diseases
Subject matter: microbiology, hygiene and analysis
3 topics- Food microbiology, food-borne pathogens, sources of microbes, spoilage and microbiological examination
- Beneficial microorganisms; traceability, recall, sanitation, HACCP, GMP, GAP, GHP, GLP
- Sampling and statistical tools, classical and modern analytical methods (mass spectrometry, molecular techniques), quality assurance and control
