FCI Manager syllabus 2026

FCI selects Managers in two online phases. Phase I is a common 100-question screening test, and its marks do not count toward merit. Phase II counts: every candidate sits the general Paper I, and Manager (Technical) candidates also sit Paper II on agriculture, biotechnology, entomology, chemistry and food law. The outline below is from FCI's latest Category II advertisement (No. 02/2022). A new notification may revise it.

Exam pattern and marking

• Phase I: 100 MCQs, 100 marks, 60 minutes; English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude and General Studies at 25 questions each, each section timed at 15 minutes; -1/4 per wrong answer; qualifying only
• Candidates called to Phase II: about 15 times the number of vacancies
• Phase II Paper I: 120 MCQs, 120 marks, 90 minutes (English 25, Reasoning 25, Numerical Aptitude 25, General Studies 45)
• Phase II Paper II (Technical): 60 MCQs of 2 marks each, 120 marks, 60 minutes, taken in the same sitting as Paper I
• No negative marking in Phase II; merit is based on Paper I plus Paper II
• Interview cut-off: 50% in Phase II for UR/EWS and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD; final weightage is online test 80%, interview 10%, training 10%

• Indian history, Indian economy, geography and general science up to Class 8 level (20 questions)
• Current affairs (5 questions)

Phase II Paper I: General

• English Language, Reasoning Ability and Numerical Aptitude, 25 questions each
• General Studies (45 questions): Indian history, economy and geography (25 questions); general science up to Class 10 level (10); current affairs (5); computer awareness (5)

Phase II Paper II: Agriculture

• Statistics of Indian agriculture (cereals and pulses)
• Food and agricultural microbiology
• Animal and plant nutrition
• Post-harvest care of cereals and pulses; food-grain protection
• Agricultural extension

Phase II Paper II: Biotechnology

• Beneficial and harmful microbes
• Genetic engineering and biotechnological principles
• Economic biotechnology
• Pathogens and their control; recent trends

Phase II Paper II: Entomology

• Basic and economic entomology; beneficial and harmful insects
• Integrated pest management (IPM)
• Insect pests of stored grain; vertebrate pests

Phase II Paper II: Chemistry

• Physical chemistry: atomic structure, chemical bonding, radioactivity
• Inorganic chemistry: periodic table, basics of metals and non-metals
• Organic chemistry: basics of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, aldehydes and acids
• Biochemistry: carbohydrates, proteins and fats

Phase II Paper II: Food and related law

• Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954
• Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and FSS Regulations, 2011
• Right to Information Act, 2005
