FCI Assistant syllabus 2027

FCI recruits Assistant Grade III for every stream through two online phases. Phase I is a common screening test whose marks do not count toward merit. For the General and Depot streams, merit depends only on the common Phase II Paper I. The Technical stream, open to food science and food technology graduates, adds a subject paper, Paper II. The outline follows FCI's latest Category III advertisement (No. 01/2022), because the next notification has not been issued yet.

Exam pattern and marking

• Phase I: 100 MCQs, 100 marks, 60 minutes; English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude and General Studies at 25 questions each, each section timed at 15 minutes; -1/4 per wrong answer; qualifying only
• Candidates called to Phase II: about 15 times the number of vacancies
• Phase II Paper I (all AG-III streams): 120 MCQs, 120 marks, 90 minutes
• Phase II Paper II (AG-III Technical only): 60 MCQs of 2 marks each, 120 marks, 60 minutes, in the same sitting as Paper I
• Phase II: -1/4 per wrong answer
• Merit: Paper I alone for General and Depot; Paper I plus Paper II for Technical

Phase I: English Language, Reasoning Ability and Numerical Aptitude

• English Language: 25 questions, English medium
• Reasoning Ability: 25 questions
• Numerical Aptitude: 25 questions

Phase I: General Studies

• History, geography, economy and general science up to Class 8 level (20 questions)
• Current affairs (5 questions)

Phase II Paper I: common to all streams

• English Language (25 questions, 20 minutes)
• Reasoning Ability (25 questions, 20 minutes)
• Numerical Aptitude (25 questions, 20 minutes)
• General Studies (45 questions, 30 minutes): history, geography and economy (25); general science up to Class 10 level (10); current affairs (5); computer awareness (5)

Phase II Paper II: AG-III (Technical) only, Group A or Group B chosen when applying

• Agriculture (both groups): statistics of Indian agriculture (cereals and pulses), elementary entomology, plant protection, agricultural economics
• Botany (Group A): cell biology, tissues, organs and organ systems; genetics; plant classification and diversity; ecology; life processes such as photosynthesis and respiration; basic biochemistry
• Zoology (Group A): animal cells and tissues, organ systems, heredity and variation, animal classification, micro-organisms, insects and rodents
• Chemistry (Group B): chemical bonding; basics of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, aldehydes and acids; inorganic chemistry; chemistry in daily life
• Physics (Group B): measurements, basic physics, light, electricity
